P.081 Evolving treatment of pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis in Alberta

Background: Pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis (MS) is associated with a high rate of disease activity. However, only single DMT – fingolimod has been approved by Health Canada for children, in 2018. In this study, we describe trends the treatment pediatric-onset MS Alberta. Methods: We performed retrospective review Alberta administrative health databases, identifying cases under 19 years age from January 1, 2011 - December 31, 2020. Pharmacy dispenses DMTs were identified Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical classification code and grouped as injectables (glatiramer acetate, interferon-beta) or newer agents (all others). Results: 79 incident pediatric during study period. 47/79 (59%) had at least one dispense, first dispense occurring median 263 days (IQR 134.5-988) index date 17.2 16.0-18.6). Injectables accounted all initial < prior to 2019, while 2019-2020 3/15 (20%) dispenses, rituximab (5/15, 33%) being most common those years. Conclusions: The children rapidly evolved, shifting shift towards earlier using high-efficacy agents.
